教宗方濟各繼承前任教宗本篤十六世的意志，力圖擺脫教廷的「反科學」形象，指宇宙大爆炸（Big Bang）理論和進化論，均無違背天主教教義，皆因兩者均出自上帝之手。
上帝創世方能成事
宗座科學院的院士周一聚集梵蒂岡，討論「自然的演化概念」。方濟各在會議上發言，指大爆炸締造萬物，需要上帝創世方能成事，兩者並無矛盾。惟教宗強調，信眾不能因而認為世界源自混沌，因為神早有計劃，是基於愛創世。
方濟各在席間亦談及進化論，指自然界中的進化與神創世之說無衝突，因為進化需要物種的創造作前提。教宗訓示教徒，表明閱讀《創世紀》時，不應想像上帝是位「拿着魔杖的法師」。他指神創造生命時，讓各物種跟隨祂定下的自然法則發展，唯獨人類與眾不同，獲上帝給予自由，能創造人道世界。
教宗同日為本篤十六世的頭像揭幕，力讚對方是位偉大的教宗，不止熱愛哲學及神學，亦愛科學。本篤十六世在任時，曾表示宇宙大爆炸是由上帝創造，進化論亦與宗教信仰無衝突。

“When we read
about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician,
with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.
He added: “He created human beings and let
them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they
would reach their fulfilment.
“The Big Bang,
which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the
intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it.
“Evolution in
nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution
requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

教宗方濟各力圖擺脫教廷的「反科學」形象？不看來不只這麼簡單！
過去，筆者曾有數篇文章指羅馬天主教正是《聖經》《啟示錄》預言的大淫婦（大巴比倫）。而《啟示錄》第
17章描述的大淫婦（大巴比倫）的經文，正是指着羅馬天主教而寫的。
按這段經文的意義，同時有三個層次：一，屬巴比倫的經濟；二，屬巴比倫的政治；三，屬巴比倫的宗教。）
啟示錄 17章 1 - 6節：
「拿著七碗的七位天使中，有一位前來對我說：你到這裡來，我將坐在眾水上的大淫婦所要受的刑罰指給你看。地上的君王與他行淫，住在地上的人喝醉了他淫亂的酒。我被聖靈感動，天使帶我到曠野去，我就看見一個女人騎在朱紅色的獸上；那獸有七頭十角，遍體有褻瀆的名號。那女人穿著紫色和朱紅色的衣服，用金子、寶石、珍珠為妝飾；手拿金杯，杯中盛滿了可憎之物，就是他淫亂的污穢。在他額上有名寫著說：奧祕哉！大巴比倫，作世上的淫婦和一切可憎之物的母。我又看見那女人喝醉了聖徒的血和為耶穌作見證之人的血。我看見他，就大大的希奇。」
無論從天主教所使用的「凱樂符號」、梵蒂岡建築群，甚至它使們用的服飾和器具，均有異教的影子，並且推崇神秘的古文明。
現今，除崇神秘的古文明外，更會公然發表言論錯解《聖經》內的默示。
